A suggested method only. The curtain is an insulation layer inside your building’s door. It is not a door, a weather barrier or security, and you are free to hang it any way you prefer.
How it works.
The two sections hang from rollers on an overhead track above the opening. To open, slide each section to its side. To close, slide them back: the leading edges overlap 6 inches in the centre, and each outside edge closes over a fixed flap. A fixed valance covers the track so warm air can’t escape over the top, and a weighted bottom edge keeps the curtain down on the floor.
What we supply.
- Two DrySpan 6R20 sections, cut from the roll for your opening: 6 inches past each side, 6 inches of centre overlap and 6 inches above the opening
- A fixed valance to cover the track
- A fixed flap down each side of the opening
- Vinyl tape for the cut edges
The door curtain goes on your supply quote as its own optional line, priced by the square foot like the rest of your insulation.
What you buy and add.
An overhead curtain track
Use galvanized steel track made for industrial or partition curtains, long enough for the opening plus room for each section to slide clear on its side. Fit a roller at every hanging point, about every 12 to 18 inches across the top of each section. For a heavy curtain, use steel ball-bearing rollers. An overlap (bypass) roller at the centre lets one section pass in front of the other.
Brackets on the frame
Bolt the track to the end-wall frame or the door header. Never hang it from the fabric cover.
The seals
Add a magnetic or hook-and-loop strip along the centre overlap and where each section meets its side flap. Along the bottom, add a weight in a hem pocket, such as a chain or a pipe, and a floor sweep.
Section sizes for common doors.
| Door opening | Each section (two) | Valance | Each side flap | Wall space each side |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10′ × 10′ | 5′9″ × 10′6″ | 11′ × 1′ | 1′ × 10′ | about 5′9″ |
| 12′ × 12′ | 6′9″ × 12′6″ | 13′ × 1′ | 1′ × 12′ | about 6′9″ |
| 12′ × 14′ | 6′9″ × 14′6″ | 13′ × 1′ | 1′ × 14′ | about 6′9″ |
| 14′ × 14′ | 7′9″ × 14′6″ | 15′ × 1′ | 1′ × 14′ | about 7′9″ |
| 16′ × 14′ | 8′9″ × 14′6″ | 17′ × 1′ | 1′ × 14′ | about 8′9″ |
| 16′ × 16′ | 8′9″ × 16′6″ | 17′ × 1′ | 1′ × 16′ | about 8′9″ |
Each section needs wall space beside the door to slide clear. Check for posts, man doors and equipment before you order.
No room beside the door?
Where the wall beside the door is taken, the curtain can fold up instead: horizontal sections about 2 feet tall, raised with straps and pulleys and stacked under the header. Tell us your opening and we’ll size the sections.
Put it on your quote.
Give us your door sizes in the door openings box on the quote form. The opening comes off the end-wall insulation, and the door curtain is added as its own line.
